A couple of months back, I wrote about my son’s best buddy of 3 years in my personal blog. Joseph Scott was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma (GBM) brain stem cancer on July 12th after his parents took him to the ER for what they thought was a three-day virus. Since that day, Joseph, John & Joy (parents), and Josiah (younger brother) have put their lives on hold to battle the cancer.
Since we heard the news, my family and I have prayed daily for the Scotts; we’ve fasted and prayed on surgery days, and repeatedly check Facebook for updates to share with our kids. Joseph’s parents have done an incredible job keeping friends and family updated through social media. Since the diagnosis, they have been through four brain surgeries, a spinal tap, to 11 hospitals and a final round or two of proton therapy in Jacksonville in a four state medical tour. On September 7th, doctors told John and Joy that Joseph could no longer be helped with modern medicine and that they should head home and prepare for Joseph to pass into Heaven.
While some updates have been devastating to read; their faith, persistence, and determination to help Joseph by surrendering to God’s will have truly been an inspiration to us all. Instead of accepting the diagnosis, they felt compelled to seek out “other” treatments (as I imagine any parent would do) that might help their child. They
came across a promising, yet experimental treatment in Houston, Texas at the Burzynski Clinic. Of course, “experimental” also means not covered by insurance. Yet, the Scotts fight on. They are not letting finances determine the care and treatment that could help their child live. Facing their situation, as a parent I would sell my right kidney to help my child.
Knowing that medical bills will come, I’ve asked the Scotts what they might need. John’s response: Supernatural pouring of prayer and resources for the treatment. It was at that very moment that I decided to donate all of October’s MOMables™ subscriptions towards Joseph’s medical bills (effective immediately thru October 31st). So, if you’ve been considering using MOMables™ to help you in your journey to make fresh lunches; know that you are directly helping the Scott family. We will be reporting along the way on his status and a final report on how much you were able to help. If you already subscribe and would like to donate, the Scott family has set up a donation page through Setting Them Free.org.
Thank you for your continued support,
Laura Fuentes,
CEO & Chief MOM of MOMables™

This is so heartbreaking. I pray that God continues to help this family and that little Joseph recuperates soon.
Thank you Ana! we too.
This is so generous of you Laura, and I am happy to be able share this with my readers and support this very deserving family and sweet Joseph.
Thank you Kelly! I appreciate your support!
I just feel so helpless in life sometimes when you hear stories like this. You want to do everything you can for the families and sometimes that is just listening and being supportive. They are in my heart!
I love this idea and considering a subscription!
Thank you Jen. Please let us know if we can improve your experience in the site.
I have not subscribed but will do it just to support this. This hits close to home for me. My son Davis was diagnosed last September with TCell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, he was 2yrs old. God healed him of cancer last October. My son is still being treated for cancer, and will be for the next 2.5 years. He is 3 now and doing wonderful. I have prayed for Joseph’s healing, and trust that he is healed in the name of Jesus…asking God to manifest the healing quickly. God bless you.
Thank you Darcy! I will be updating all of you on the progress throughout the month.
I will pray for Joseph and his family!!!!!!! We also wanted to take our 2-year-old daughter to Dr. Burzynski, but weren’t allowed to since she hadn’t failed to respond to conventional treatment yet. I believe his method can work miracles, and so can God in heaven!!! I’ll pray for them, please let them know!!!
I feel for all of you parents who are caring for children diagnosed with cancer. My friend Melanie founded an organization called SuperSibs! after her older son was diagnosed with leukemia and her younger son had trouble coping. You may want to look into it. http://supersibs.org/
