Healthier Snacking with Air Popped Chips

I first connected with Popchips at the Starlight Children’s Foundation event in Los Angeles.  Many of our subscribers and readers email us for “healthier alternatives” to put in their kids lunch.  While we don’t recommend eating chips every day, on occasion, why not substitute fried chips with Popchips? They are air popped and are not filled with junk ingredients my additive-allergic daughter can’t eat.  When they offered a 30day supply giveaway, our resident mom Sue jumped in to the opportunity to write up about popchips. From Sue:

As a busy mother of two young kids I find myself being tempted to snack quite often.  We are always on-the-go and dinner is usually our only sit down meal.  I love to snack, but I hate what it does to my waistline and the health of my family. I make good choices 98% of the time and choose whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, but on that rare 2% day, all I want is a good old fashion, crispy, crunchy potato chip.

I usually try my best to resist the urge to totally let myself indulge with the run of the mill greasy chip, but always fill guilty and quite disgusting after indulging. Then, when I try to make the “better” choice and reach for the baked version, I am left feeling unsatisfied and just plain gypped on flavor.

When I was given the opportunity to try a bag or two of popchips myself and I have to say that at first, I was skeptical. “Healthier alternatives” to regular foods tend to have three times the ingredients to make them low calorie, low fat and to add in the missing flavor.  In this case, I was wrong.  These little chips were light, crispy and satisfying when the urge to eat greasy chips.  Another bonus is that, they are low in calorie and barely have any fat.  The original flavor is always gluten free and vegan. In my opinion, a win-win for the occasional snack lover.Enter my go-to-snack: popchips.

What are popchips exactly? A snack “chip” made from nothing but all natural ingredients. And when they say all natural, they really mean it.  popchips all-natural pledge: no fake colors, no fake flavors, no preservatives, no fluorescent orange fingertips, and no wiping your greasy chip hand on your jeans.  No, really.  We only use ingredients you can feel good about eating and we leave out the bad stuff like: hydrogenated oils and MSG, that give snacking a bad name.  That’s one way they take snacking to a healthier level, but how exactly do they make them and what does all this “popping” mean? I didn’t get “how” it was done until I watched their video: The magic of popping.

What about my kid’s lunches?  Well, on occasion they ask for potato chips (I think mostly because all the other kids bring them to school) with their sandwiches.  Instead of throwing in a single serving of potato chips in their lunch bag I’d throw in three or four chips (hey, we are trying to eat healthier and junk is eaten on moderation).  Now, I can throw in an entire serving of popchips and not feel like I’m shortchanging my kids -yes, seriously… I’d put three or four potato chips in there! lol.

The MOMables™ team and I have certainly become popchips fans and love that we can find a healthier alternative, not only for ourselves, but for our whole family. These little air popped chips would make a great occasional addition to any lunch box for any age.

Wait, it gets better.  The fabulous team at  Popchips have given us the opportunity to share their air popped magic with you, our loyal readers. They have offered to give away and entire month of popchips to one of our lucky readers. All you have to do is:
