Below, you’ll learn how to make this irresistible grilled club sandwich so that it stays delicious and crispy whether you eat it now or dig into it later!

Homemade Grilled Club Sandwich
Regular sandwiches are fine… but this grilled club sandwich is a serious upgrade. Savory deli meat and fresh veggies tucked in perfectly toasted bread? Who wouldn’t one (or two)? Plus, we’re saving a bundle ditching those overpriced cafe versions.
And look, I’m not saying you HAVE to add bacon… but when you can cook up perfectly crunchy bacon in the microwave in minutes, why not? Make extra and try this epic bacon grilled cheese and chicken bacon sandwich next. You’ll thank me!
Best Bread to Use
Any bread will work, but something sturdy like sourdough, whole grain, or a rustic loaf will hold up better to grilling and give you that next-level crunch that a good club sandwich deserves!
How to Make a Grilled Club Sandwich
After making hundreds of grilled sandwiches over the years, here are some of my assembly tips that ensure success:
- Assemble the sandwiches
Spread mayo on one side of each bread slice, and layer on lettuce, deli meat, tomato, any extra fillings, cheese, and the remaining slice of bread. This layering keeps moisture from the tomato from reaching the bread and making it soggy; especially important if you are packing this for a school lunch. - Grill it
Butter the outside of both sandwiches, then grill them in a non-stick pan over medium heat for a couple of minutes until one side is golden brown. Flip and grill for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melty. - Serve
Remove the sandwiches from heat and allow them to rest for a few minutes before slicing them on a plate or cutting board.

Packing It for Lunch
The trick to packing grilled sandwiches so they stay perfectly crispy is to avoid trapped steam. Let your sandwich cool completely before packing it in sturdy lunch container. I also recommend placing lettuce or cheese between the bread and fillings to keep the bread dry. And don't forget an ice pack if you're packing it with lunch sides, like yogurt or fruit, to keep them fresh.
