5 Healthy Lunch Desserts for School

We all need a sweet treat now and then. Mine is always chocolate–I can’t get enough! I know my kids like to have a little dessert in their school lunches, and I like to know what I’m giving them.

Have you looked at the ingredients in some of the packaged desserts? I prefer to give my kids healthier treats most of the time, saving store-bought desserts for special times. Plus, some of us have to watch out for certain ingredients because of our children’s allergies.

Recreating family favorites into healthier alternatives is an easy way to enjoy fresh eating without feeling like you are missing out.

Instead of starting from scratch, why not take your families most enjoyed dishes and make them fresher, and fast to make? You can see how we do this week to week in our family meal plans, with a free week of dinners and lunches.

And if you’re looking for something sweet but smart to include in lunch, we’ve got you covered there too! Here are 5 healthy desserts for your kids’ school lunches that you’ll feel good about packing.

School Desserts

Whether your kids love chocolate, parfaits, or baked treats, there’s something for everyone and each of these desserts are easy to pack into the lunch bag.

1. Chocolate Avocado Pudding

Healthy avocado and banana chocolate pudding with fruit

This should really be called superfood pudding! Avocados add tons of nutrition, and cocoa powder is full of good-for-you antioxidants. This only requires a blender and 4 ingredients. Simply pack it in individual containers, and your kids won’t even guess how healthy this chocolate pudding is! This dessert is perfect for any child with food allergies, too.

2. Fruit & Yogurt Parfait

Parfaits are always a favorite dessert and this recipe is tastes better than any premade version from the grocery store! Pack it in a chilled thermos container and it will stay perfectly cold for lunch!

3. Strawberry Fruit Leather

This easy and delicious treat is made with fresh strawberries and baked on low until perfectly chewy and sweet! It’s a great idea for the abundance of fresh summer berries.

4. Chocolate Dipped Oranges

Put a fun twist on fruit by dipping them in a little chocolate (since that makes everything better, right?). You’ll feel good knowing your kid is getting in a serving of fruit. These simple dipped oranges slices can be made ahead of time for an easy dessert that’s ready to go in the morning!

5. Cinnamon Coffee Cake Muffins

Warm and delicious muffins with a cinnamon crumble topping. These make a great breakfast or afternoon treat for kids.

Love the chocolate-dipped oranges idea! My son loves chocolate (the darker, the better) and I’ve found that packing him a small chocolate treat motivates him to eat more of his healthy lunch. Often, I just pack him a small square of dark chocolate, but I bet he’d love the orange slices for a change.
