Turkey & Cheese Bento Box

My kids have always loved lunches that feel more like snacking, and turkey, cheese, and crackers are an easy combination that never gets old. This is one of those packed lunches that reminds you why making a homemade lunchable is always better for our kids. It’s healthier, more affordable, and most importantly, more filling.

How to DIY This Turkey & Cheese Lunchable

  1. Assemble
At a minimum, roll up the turkey, add sliced cheese, and crackers inside a compartmentalized container. Add more protein with a hard-boiled egg, and make it more nutritious by adding fruit and veggies. Keep the crackers in their own compartment or sealed bag so they don't absorb moisture from the other foods.
  2. Pack it for school
Refrigerate the lunch until you're ready to place it inside an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack, if needed.

Laura's School Lunch Packing Tips

Will crackers get soggy in the fridge?

They can. It mostly depends on the lunchbox and if the crackers are inside a sealed compartment. Otherwise, crackers absorb moisture from the air and from other ingredients.

Can I make this Lunchable ahead?

Yes. Assemble the turkey, cheese, egg, fruit, and veggies ahead and refrigerate the lunchbox. Keeping the crackers sealed separately makes this an easy grab-and-go lunch for busy mornings.

How can I make packing this lunch faster?

Batch-cook hard-boiled eggs, peel them, and keep them refrigerated so they're ready to add to lunches during the week. I use them constantly because they're an easy way to make a simple lunch more filling.

Do I have to cut the turkey and cheese into shapes?

Not at all. Roll or fold the turkey and slice the cheese into pieces that fit on the crackers. The whole point is giving kids something they can stack and eat easily at lunch.

Watch How It’s Made:

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces deli turkey
  • 1 ounce cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 6 whole-grain crackers
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • Fruit and veggies, as sides

Instructions

Assemble

  • Arrange the turkey, cheese, hard-boiled egg, fruit, and veggies inside a compartment lunch container. Pack the crackers in their own compartment or a sealed bag so they stay crisp.

Pack for Lunch

  • Refrigerate until ready to place the lunch inside an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack, if needed.

Notes

Crackers absorb moisture from other foods, so keeping them separate is the best way to make sure they're still crisp at lunchtime.
