This protein lunchable is every mom’s dream: easy to make in no time with healthy ingredients that growing kids like! Bonus: it’s a fun, nostalgic, packed lunch idea even teens will enjoy adding to their lunch box or as an after school snack.

Much healthier than any store-bought version, this is an epic meal they can eat for lunch, as a high-protein side for a sandwich, or as a snack on their way to practice. Versatile AND easy is always a win!

Keep reading to learn all the packing tips, swaps, and add-ins that will make this protein lunchable your teens’ (and your) new favorite.

What goes in Protein Lunchable

You can customize this school lunch with ingredients you have around for a terrific protein lunchable kids can enjoy at school or on the go. This one includes:

  • Hard-boiled egg: a convenient way to add protein to any lunchbox.
  • Deli meat: I’m adding deli turkey. Use ham, salami, or any other deli meat you have for extra protein.
  • Cheese: any cheese sliced or cubed.
  • Crackers: this lunch includes whole-grain crackers, you can add your favorites.
  • Strawberries: or any other fruit your teen likes.

How to Pack Protein Lunchable for School

Packing this protein lunchable is fast and while the how-to might seem obvious, here are some tips for each step that help keep it fresh until lunch:

  1. Peel the hard-boiled egg
Having hard-boiled eggs ready in the fridge makes packing this lunch a breeze and turns this into a high-protein lunch idea.
  2. Add the deli meat & cheese
Customize this homemade lunchable with ham or turkey plus cheese. You can slice it or cube it.
  3. Add crackers
In a separate compartment, to prevent them from getting soggy.
  4. Add fruit
Add this lunch box side for the added vitamins and now you’re one serving closer to the daily requirements. Add your kids’ favorite.
  5. Store
Refrigerate until you’re ready to go or place it in a lunch bag with an ice pack.

More tips to pack healthy homemade lunchables

Follow these tips and your school lunchboxes are going be a success every time:

Make ahead
Boiling eggs ahead helps to build great lunchables with extra protein. Whether it’s a bento box, a snack box, or a salad, you can kick up nutrition by simply adding an egg.

Pack in bulk
Save yourself time by packing many lunches all at once. Place the lunchboxes, add the ingredients as I explained above, and store in the fridge for a few days. If you add apples, pears, or avocado to this meal, pack them the same morning you send this lunch to school to keep them from turning brown.

Keep crackers separated
Crackers are the dry ingredient of this lunch so you want to pack them separately. This way, you keep them from absorbing any moisture. Check my lunchbox top picks here for packing lunches like a pro.

Swaps are allowed
What makes this protein lunchable so convenient is that you can customize it with what you have in the kitchen. Use any cheese and deli meat you like. Swap strawberries for another veggie or fruit. Add you favorite crackers!

Kick up the protein factor
The protein in this lunch comes from the hard-boiled egg, the deli meat, and the cheese to make lunchables more filling. You can also add mixed nuts and take protein to the next level!

Satisfy hungry bellies
This protein lunchable is great to serve with a sandwich for active athletes. They can also eat it in the car on the way to practice for snacking. Add a healthy homemade dessert for the sweet-toothed!
