If you love a classic BLT, this BLT bagel sandwich makes a filling lunch that’s easy to pack ahead and eat later. Here, you’ll learn how to assemble it and keep the bagel from getting soggy until lunchtime.

How to Make It
- Cook the bacon
Use leftover cooked bacon or cook bacon in the microwave in just a couple of minutes. Let it cool before assembling the sandwich. - Assemble the bagel
Spread mayonnaise on the bagel halves, then layer the lettuce, tomato, and crispy bacon. Keep the lettuce between the tomato and bagel to prevent the bread from getting soggy. - Pack it for lunch
Close the sandwich and place it in a sturdy lunch container that fits snugly. Keep refrigerated until it’s time to pack your lunch bag with an ice pack.
Laura’s Lunch Packing Tips
You can, but you don’t have to. I like a lightly toasted bagel for a little extra texture. Just let it cool completely before assembling the sandwich so the trapped steam doesn’t soften the bread.
Dry the lettuce well and put it between the tomato and the bagel; this way, the tomato juices don’t soak into the bagel. When packing sandwiches for lunch, I also use a sturdy container to keep everything in place.
Guacamole, hummus, or cream cheese all work. Spread a thin layer on the bagel so you get plenty of flavor without making the sandwich too wet.
Yes. Assemble it with cooled bacon and dry lettuce, then refrigerate it in a sealed container. Keep fruit, veggies, and other lunch sides separate, and pack the sandwich in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack to keep it chilled until lunch.
