Bacon Lettuce Tomato Bagel Sandwich
Coordinating my family’s busy schedules of activities and homework, in addition to figuring out what to pack for school lunch, can make some days feel like a whirlwind. Enter this easy school lunch idea: a Bagel BLT sandwich!
The combination of crispy bacon and fresh veggies nestled in a flavorful bagel makes this a delicious twist on the classic BLT sandwich, a bit more filling than the BLT Wrap, and unlike the BLT salad, no utensils are needed.
If bagel sandwiches are your thing, try this Turkey and Swiss or an incredible Everything Bagel Sandwich, which are also amazing! For a lower-carb option, try making these everything cloud bagels.
What You Need
Make this ultimate school lunch in 5 minutes with a few simple ingredients and minimal prep time!
- Bagel: Plain, everything, sesame… whichever bagel you love will taste great for this BLT! Toast it for extra crunch or keep that soft, chewy texture.
- Mayonnaise: While optional, it keeps the bread moist and adds a creamy and tangy flavor.
- Bacon: Cooked leftover bacon or microwave bacon to crispy perfection in 2 minutes!
- Lettuce: Any fresh lettuce will do. Choose big leafy varieties like romaine or bib for that perfect crunch!
- Tomato: For a burst of juicy sweet freshness that pairs perfectly with the salty bacon. Plus, it adds nutrition.

How to Pack a BLT Sandwich for Lunch
Some tips that help keep this BLT sandwich fresh when packed for school in a lunch box include:
- Cook the bacon
Before assembling the bagel sandwich, cook the bacon if you don’t have any already cooked. - Assemble the bagel sandwich
If you wash the lettuce leaves before making this sandwich, dry them well so they don’t get wet. Place the tomato slices on top of the lettuce and the bacon on top; that way, there’s always an ingredient between the bagel and the tomato to prevent a soggy sandwich. - Pack it for lunch
Use a sturdy lunch container that fits the sandwich snugly to prevent it from sliding around or getting squished inside the lunch bag.
Packing Tips for Bagel Sandwiches
Making the bagel sandwich ahead of time or simply want to know how to keep it fresh for hours until lunch? Here are some additional tips:
Keep it cool

For extra fiber swap with guacamole or hummus for a tasty alternative. You can even use cream cheese!
Pack it separately
Pack fresh fruits and veggies in a separate compartment. Not sure what to add? These tasty and filling school lunch sides go perfectly with sandwiches like this one and our popular PB&J Bagel Sandwich!
