With the flavorful seasoning sprinkled on top, an everything bagel sandwich always feels like your lunch is getting an instant upgrade. Here, you’ll learn how to build one that stays fresh, doesn’t get soggy, and packs beautifully for school.

Making It for Lunch
- Build the sandwich
Spread a thin layer of your favorite condiment on both bagel halves. Layer lettuce first, followed by the deli meat, cheese, and tomato before closing the sandwich. If you’re using tomatoes, place the lettuce and cheese between the bagel and the tomatoes to create a moisture barrier. - Pack it for school
Slice the sandwich in half and pack it inside a sturdy lunch container. Add fruit, veggies, and other lunch sides separately. Refrigerate until it’s time to place the lunch inside an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack (if it’s hot).
Laura’s School Lunch Packing Tips
Turkey and ham are my go-to choices, but roast beef, chicken, chicken salad, and egg salad are all delicious on an everything bagel. Choose whatever your family already enjoys.
Because everything bagels already have so much flavor, I usually keep it simple with mayonnaise, mustard, or hummus. If you want to change things up, try guacamole or your favorite flavored cream cheese.
Dry the lettuce well and use the lettuce and cheese as a barrier between the bagel and juicy ingredients like tomatoes. Pack any extra dressings or dips in a separate container.
Yes. Assemble the sandwich, refrigerate it overnight, and pack it in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack the next morning. It holds up very well when layered correctly.
