Learn how to pack this ham and cheese croissant dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, and olives inside a lunch box and keep it fresh for hours at school.

Ham and Cheese Croissant Sandwich
Up your lunch game with this ham and cheese croissant sandwich with tomatoes and olives. It's my daughter's go-to whenever we have croissants at home, and she swears it's better than any cafeteria meal. Plus, I feel good knowing she's enjoying a filling teen lunch. #DoubleWin.
Turning any sandwich for school into a croissant sandwich is an easy way to give it a glow-up. Try it with this Hawaiian Grilled Cheese Sandwich or this Turkey Pesto Sandwich.
Ingredients
For this croissant sandwich I’m using the ingredients found in the recipe card below and, of course, it’s very easy to switch out different items for dietary needs or tastes:
- Croissants: Any size croissants will work.
- Condiments: While optional, mayo and mustard will give a nice creamy and tangy flavor. Swap it out for other options like ranch or even hummus if you prefer.
- Lettuce: adds a nice crunch and helps create a moisture barrier from other ingredients.
- Tomato: For a burst of juicy freshness and nutrition, just like in this classic Ham & Tomato Croissant.
- Deli meats: ham is my daughter’s favorite, but you can use sliced turkey or chicken. Opt for nitrite-free if possible.
- Sliced cheese: Swiss or Cheddar are our go-to, but any sliced cheese will work.
- Olives: I recommend Kalamata or black olives for the right flavor balance.
How to Pack a Ham and Cheese Croissant sandwich for lunch
Making a croissant sandwich might seem obvious, but there are some easy tips that will help keep it fresh and tasting great whether you enjoy it at home or pack it for school:
- Prep
Make sure the lettuce is completely dry first to avoid transfering moisture to your croissant. - Assemble Sandwich
Spread the mayo and mustard on each side of the sliced croissant. Next, layer your ingredients so that the cheese, deli meat, tomato slices and olives are between the two lettuce leaves. This will create a barrier between the croissant and the tomato helping to prevent a soggy sandwich. - Pack it for lunch
Cut the croissant sandwich in half and place it in a durable container with any healthy lunch sides kept separately.

Keeping a Croissant Sandwich Fresh for School Lunch
Packing sandwiches for school is simple, and with these additional tips, you’ll keep this ham and cheese croissant fresh and fabulous until lunch.
Use the right container
Even my older kids manage to accidentally shake up their lunch bag throughout the day. A zip bag just won’t prevent everything from getting squished. Packing this croissant sandwich in a sturdy container is my pro-tip for keeping everything intact.
Keep things separate
Packing crunchy sides like potato chips and carrot sticks in a separate compartment or container will help keep them fresh and crisp.
Prevent bread from getting soggy
When packing a sandwich for later, place a dry ingredient like lettuce or cheese between the bread and wet ingredients to prevent a soggy lunch.
Keep food safe
Add an ice pack in the lunch bag to regulate the temperature inside and keep food fresh and safe to eat.
