Learn how to pack this ham and tomato croissant sandwich inside a lunch box and keep it fresh until it's time to eat it at school.

Ham Croissant Sandwich with Tomatoes
My son is always excited to find a croissant in his lunchbox, so I knew this ham and tomato croissant would be an instant hit! It’s amazing how something as simple as a different type of bread can transform a regular sandwich into an epic lunch idea.
Like with this bagel BLT sandwich or Turkey club wrap, that small extra touch of switching out the sandwich bread can make lunchtime feel a little more special.
What You Need
Whether you stick to the recipe card or get creative with the sandwich fillings, this recipe is incredibly simple to make.
- Croissant: large or small will work.
- Mayo and mustard: optional, to add flavor and help lettuce stick in place. Sometimes, I will swap them for hummus for extra protein.
- Lettuce: for extra crunch and to create a barrier against moisture.
- Tomato: adds nutrition and a juicy texture.
- Deli meat: Savory and protein-packed. Opt for nitrate-free, if possible.
How to Pack a Ham Croissant Sandwich for Lunch
Assembling each ingredient in the right place will ensure this ham and tomato croissant stays appealing instead of soggy! It’s as easy as this step-by-step:
- Prep
Make sure your lettuce is completely dry after washing to prevent moisture from seeping into the bread. - Assemble sandwich
If using mayo and mustard, spread it on both halves of the croissant. Then, layer the ham and tomato slices between the two lettuce leaves. This will keep the juice from the tomato away from the croissant and prevent it from getting soggy. - Pack it for lunch
Cut the croissant in half and place it in a hard sandwich container keeping any lunch sides separate.
School Lunch Packing Tips for Croissant Sandwiches
No matter what kind of bread you are using, these extra tips for Packing sandwiches will ensure your ham and tomato croissant stays amazing until lunchtime.
Avoid a flattened sandwich
Keeping sandwiches from getting squished or flattened in the lunch bag is much easier if you pack them in a durable, sandwich-sized container.
Keep food safe
If you’re preparing this ahead of time, keep your lunch refridgerated until ready to use and then add an ice pack in the lunch bag to regulate the temperature and keep food fresh and safe to eat.
Toast the Croissant Slightly
Give the croissant a quick toasting before assembling the sandwich. This adds a slight crunch and helps create a sturdier base that resists moisture.
Add more energy
Older kids and those playing sports need more fuel, so adding healthy snacks like Baked Banana Chips and yogurt can help keep them going longer. Plus, I have some tips on how to pack yogurt!
Prevent bread from getting soggy
When packing a sandwich for later, place a dry ingredient like lettuce or cheese between the bread and wet ingredients to prevent a soggy lunch.

If croissant sandwiches are also winners at your house, you’ll want to make this ham and cheese croissant and this chicken salad croissant – my son’s top pick- which my daughter always packs herself into a healthier chicken salad lunch.
