How to Make a Wrap Sandwich Step by Step

In a matter of minutes and just a few steps, you’ll be able to create a wrap sandwich for lunch! Mix and match the ingredients used to fill your wrap, and no two lunches will be the same. Here is how, step-by-step:

  1. Prep
Ingredients like bacon and chicken, either grilled or cooked in the air fryer, can be made ahead of time and kept in the fridge up to 3 days!
  2. Assemble
Spread a thin layer of mayo, hummus, or your favorite dressing on a tortilla. If using dressing, a little goes a long way. Adding too much can make your tortilla soggy.
Layer your veggies, protein, cheese, and leafy greens in the center of the wrap.
  3. Roll it up tightly
Fold the sides in, and fold the tortilla over the ingredients assembled in the middle. Roll it up tightly, holding the filling in place as you go.
  4. Pack it
Place the sandwich wrap inside a lunch container or bento box where it fits snugly inside. Slice it in half if necessary.
  5. Keep it Chilled
Refrigerate the lunch until it’s time to pack it for school inside a lunch bag with an ice pack to keep it fresh until lunch.

How to Assemble a Wrap

Making a wrap for the lunch box is easy when your ingredients are placed on the tortilla in the right order. Spreads like mayonnaise or hummus should go directly on top of the wrap acting as the sticky base for any leafy greens you want to include. After that, all your filler and toppings with the final ingredient being any sliced deli meats to hold everything down before you close it.

How to Fold a Wrap Sandwich

Once you have layered your wrap ingredients in the right order, you simply have to fold two of the sides in, fold over one end, and wrap it tightly. Keep it closed like a burrito or slice it in half before placing it inside the lunch container.

Watch this simple video demonstrating how it’s done:

How to Prevent a Lunch Wrap from Getting Soggy

You can prevent soggy wraps by avoiding adding too much mayo or hummus to the tortilla and packing extra dressing in a small, lidded container. Layer the wrap ingredients to separate wet foods like tomatoes and cucumbers away from the wrap, on top of greens, cheese, or deli meat slices.

During hot weather, adding an ice pack inside the lunch bag is a great way to regulate the temperature inside the bag, which helps prevent the foods you pack from getting soggy.

Wrap Filling Ideas

Grab a large, burrito-sized tortilla and get ready to fill it with one or each or a combination of the ingredients in these categories! The possibilities are endless when it comes to filling your lunch wraps! Ingredient ideas to fill your wrap:

  • Protein: grilled chicken strips, sliced lunch meats, hard-boiled eggs, tuna and salmon salad, rotisserie chicken, or tofu.
  • Veggies: carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, zucchini ribbons, mushrooms, avocado.
  • Cheese: feta, shredded Cheddar, Mozzarella, Pepper Jack cheese, blue cheese crumbles, or Swiss cheese.
  • Spreads: Hummus, Ranch dressing, Cesar dressing, Tzatziki, pesto, mustard, guacamole, regular or spicy mayo!

How to Pack a Wrap for Lunch

Once your tortilla and the filling ingredients are tightly rolled into a wrap, place it inside the main compartment of a lunch container, whole or sliced in half, where there’s little to no room for it to move around, to prevent it from falling apart during transport. Then, refrigerate it until you’re ready to pack it inside the lunch bag with an ice pack if needed.
