Learn how to pack pizza leftovers like a pro for a terrific school lunch that’s tasty, fun, and convenient!

Homemade Pizza Bento for School
This pizza bento box was inspired by both my kids’ devotion to pizza and my determination to use leftovers to pack lunches. It comes together quickly with hummus, pita chips, and classic pizza toppings. It’s the better version of the pre-packaged crackers and cheese or deconstructed pizza lunches at the grocery store.
That’s the fun in building bento boxes: the ingredients are simple, ready to eat, and can be easily swapped or replaced with whatever items you have available, even with leftovers.
All you have to do is pair pizza toppings with fresh fruit, veggies, and whole-grain or grain-free carbohydrates to make it a complete meal you can prep ahead of time!
What is a Pizza Bento Box
Customize your pizza bento box with leftovers and simple ingredients you already have on hand for a convenient school lunch that kids will love to eat!
This one includes:
- Hummus: a great dip for any bento. Use store-bought or homemade hummus.
- Pepperoni slices: traditional or turkey.
- Mozzarella: or any other cheese you use.
- Pita chips: swap them for regular crackers, pita wedges, or even pretzels.
- Your favorite pizza toppings: sliced olives, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, etc.
How to Pack Pizza Bento Box for Lunch
Keeping this pizza bento box fresh until lunchtime is possible by packing ingredients correctly.
Here’s how I assembled this lunch:
- Pack hummus
Fill a small lidded container with hummus, or place a single-serve hummus cup inside the main compartment of a lunch box. - Add pita chips and cheese
In the same compartment as the sealed hummus, or another, place the pita chips and cheese cubes. Try to keep the dry ingredients separate. - Pack more toppings separated
In another compartment or small lidded containers, place the other ingredients, especially any ingredient that contains moisture, like black olives and bell peppers (if using). - Refrigerate
Close the lid and refrigerate until ready to pack inside the lunch bag, up to a day.
