Chicken Wrap with Avocado

This wrap recipe takes the glorious combination of chicken and avocado to a new level of goodness by adding veggies and folding it all inside a tortilla! An easy and filling lunch with lots of protein!

You only need about ½ cup of chicken, so this wrap is perfect to use up leftovers or from a rotisserie chicken. You’ll need to shred the chicken or chop it into small pieces with a knife. Since the chicken has no sauce, you’ll want to add a little mayonnaise or ranch to the tortilla for extra flavor and moisture.

Plus, by adding avocado, lettuce, and tomato, you’ll turn this wrap into a filling and balanced school lunchbox meal that includes protein, carbs, healthy fats, and fiber! This wrap is always a teen-favorite lunch.

What is in a Chicken Avocado Lunch Wrap

You can customize this chicken wrap to make the most of what you already have in the kitchen, like chicken leftovers, veggies, and your favorite dressing. Here’s what I include in this wrap, measurements are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Cooked chicken: you can use chicken breast, chicken thighs, or rotisserie chicken, shredded or chopped.
  • Mayonnaise: gives this wrap a little moisture and flavor. Ranch or hummus also do the work!
  • Lettuce leaves: add nutrition while helping hold the other ingredients.
  • Tomato: a fresh and healthy addition to this wrap.
  • Avocado: or guacamole!
  • Tortilla: there´s no wrap without it! Use your favorite tortillas.
  • Fruit & veggies: add what you have on hand for extra nutrition.

How to Pack Chicken Avocado Wrap for Lunch

Keeping this Chicken Avocado Wrap fresh and intact until lunchtime is possible if you assemble and pack it correctly. Here are the steps to make a wrap for lunch:

  1. Layer mayo & lettuce
Place the tortilla on a flat surface and spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or Ranch dressing over the tortilla. Layer a couple of lettuce leaves on top.
  2. Add veggies & chicken
Place the tomato slices in the middle of the tortilla, in a row. Top with the shredded or finely chopped chicken and lay the avocado slices on top or next to the chicken.
  3. Wrap it up!
Fold in the two sides and then one end over the chicken, rolling it tightly into a wrap. Slice in half.
  4. Pack & store
Place the chicken wrap inside the main compartment of a lunchbox along with some fruit and veggies. Cover with the lid and refrigerate until ready to pack inside a lunch bag with or without an ice pack.

More Tips for Packing Wraps for School Lunch

Keep it fresh for hours
If you make this chicken avocado wrap ahead, you´ll want to prevent the tortilla from drying out. Moist a paper towel put it over the wrap, and refrigerate. I highly recommend doing this if you´re using gluten-free tortillas since they tend to dry out quicker than traditional flour tortillas.

Slow down avocado from browning
While the avocado will brown, you can also wait to slice the wrap in half until you’re ready to eat it or keep it wrapped like a burrito.

Pack veggies & fruits separated
When adding extra veggies and fruits to the lunchbox, place them in a separate compartment so everything stays fresh and crunchy.

Keep it simple
Wraps make terrific school lunches with very little work: use chicken leftovers from dinner or a rotisserie chicken, swap avocado for guacamole, and pack on the side veggies and fruits that you´ll already have.

Meal prep
Cooked chicken solves lunches! If you have chicken leftovers in the fridge, you can easily build healthy meals like this wrap, tasty lunches with chicken salad, and nutritious bento boxes.
