Crispy apples and creamy peanut butter make this peanut butter apple sandwich an epic lunch you can pack in less than 5 minutes!

This peanut butter apple sandwich is a healthy lunch you can assemble fast, and I’m sharing all my tips for packing it in the lunchbox. Ready to make one?

Crunchy Peanut Butter Apple Sandwich

Every bite of this peanut butter apple sandwich has that sweet-salty combo we love with added crunch from the apple. It’s a delicious switch from the usual PB & J, and just as easy to make.

This is one of those 5-minute lunch ideas that adds variety to your kid’s diet and makes them excited to eat fresh, real food. Want to add more protein to the lunch? Pack it with a couple of hard-boiled eggs or rolled deli meat and you’re good to go.

What is in a Peanut Butter Crunch Sandwich

Grab these ingredients from the pantry and let’s make lunch!

  • Bread: whole grain or your favorite sandwich bread.
  • Peanut butter: creamy or crunchy- it’s up to you! *Check out one of my peanut butter alternatives if your child attends a peanut-free school.
  • Apple: tart apples like Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Honey Crisp work great.
  • Honey: just a drizzle!
  • Snacks! this lunch is packed with the remaining sliced apple, berries, and sugar snap peas.

How to Pack Peanut Butter Apple Sandwich for Lunch

Time to pack this peanut butter sandwich for lunch and keep it fresh for hours, here’s what to do:

  1. Prep
Wash the berries and apple and thinly slice the apple.
  2. Assemble the sandwich
Place the bread onto a flat surface and spread the peanut butter onto both slices. Top with sliced apple, a drizzle of honey, and the remaining slice of bread.
  3. Prepare for shipment
Pack the sandwich into a lunch container with compartments making sure to keep it separate from the fruit and veggies. Top with the lid and tuck the lunch away in a lunch bag.

School Lunch Packing Tips

These bonus tips can help make sure this peanut butter apple sandwich stays fresh and delicious until it’s time to eat it at school.

Use the right container
Ziplock bags can be convenient in a pinch, but using them to pack sandwiches for lunch often ends up with squished bread, which means kids may not want to eat it anymore. Be sure to use a hard plastic or stainless steel lunch container with a sandwich-size compartment so the sandwich won’t get squished or fall apart.

Don’t let the bread get soggy
Be sure to spread a layer of peanut butter on both sides of the bread. This will make a barrier between the apple slices and the bread to be sure that no wetness from the apples makes the bread soggy.

Don’t forget the sides
Pack this easy sandwich idea with fun lunch sides to round out the meal. Some favorites might be homemade strawberry fruit leather, these crunchy cheese crackers, or even this DIY fruit cup.

More Peanut Butter Sandwich Ideas

My kids love peanut butter, so I’m always adding their favorite spread to their lunches, like in this strawberry peanut butter sandwich, this PB banana sandwich, or this nostalgic Fluffernutter sandwich.

For a fun twist of the classic peanut butter sandwich, I like to pack this PB and Nutella sandwich sushi, these peanut butter and jelly roll-ups, and these freezable homemade uncrustables.
