Croissants feel way more gourmet than regular sandwich bread, but they're just as easy to pack! Learn how to keep this savory salami croissant fresh and school-lunch ready in the post below.

School Lunch Croissant Sandwich with Salami
I picked up a pack of croissants over the weekend and somehow there are a few left, so of course, I had to turn them into an epic school lunch! This croissant sandwich with salami has that fancy vibe of our favorite deli and takes just 5 minutes.
These fillings are next-level good! If your kids are fans of salami, definitely try out this salami sandwich roll when you don’t have a croissant on hand or a salami & cheese bento lunch for an easy, low-carb lunch or snack.
What You Need
I'm following the recipe card below for this salami sandwich, but it's easy to get creative and switch up the ingredients to suit your taste or needs:
- Croissant: you can use any size croissant for this sandwich, but I prefer a large one to fit in as much salami and cheese goodness as possible!
- Salami: any deli salami works, but Genoa is my go-to.
- Cheese: cheese and salami is a foodie match made in heaven! My faves for this sandwich are gouda, cheddar, and manchego.
- Lettuce: gives a nice crunch and helps create a moisture barrier from other ingredients.
- Cherry tomatoes: sliced in rounds. You can also use larger tomatoes but keep then thinly sliced to prevent excess moisture.
- Mustard or Mayo: adds extra flavor and helps hold the ingredients in place.

How to Pack a Salami Croissant for Lunch
Making a croissant sandwich is as easy as layering a few ingredients, but packing it right ensures it stays amazing. Here's how:
- Start with the spread
Cut the croissant in half and spread mayo or mustard on both halves to help hold the lettuce in place. - Layer ingredients
First, place the lettuce leaves on both halves of the croissant. Layer your ingredients so that the cheese, salami, and slices cherry tomatoes are between the two lettuce leaves to create a moisture barrier and prevent a soggy sandwich. - Pack it for lunch
Cut the croissant sandwich in half and place it in a sturdy container. Keep any healthy lunch sides kept separately.
School Lunch Packing Tips for Croissant Sandwiches
Follow these additional tips to pack sandwiches like a pro, whether it’s a croissant sandwich or any other favorite, so they stay fresh and intact until it’s time to eat.
Use the right container
A croissant sandwich can easily get crushed or jostled around in a lunch bag. Using a hard, sandwich-sized container ensures it arrives at school just as perfect as when you made it.
Keep it Cool
Since croissants are butter-based, they taste best when kept fresh. Adding an ice pack inside the lunch bag helps keep the ingredients crisp and prevents the sandwich from getting too soft.
Prevent soggy bread
If you’re going to make a sandwich for later, place a dry ingredient like lettuce or cheese between the bread and any wet ingredients to keep the bread from getting soggy.
Keep things separate
Crunchy sides like potato chips and crackers should be packed in a separate compartment or container to keep them crispy.
More Croissant Sandwich Ideas
If croissant sandwiches are your thing, a ham and tomato croissant sandwich or a creamy chicken salad croissant keeps lunch simple but delicious, while a ham and cheese croissant with tomatoes and olives gives off major gourmet deli vibes!
