School Lunch Wrap with Turkey and Bacon

The other day, my son playfully called me a lunch ninja while I was making this epic wrap with turkey and bacon. I’ll take the compliment! When it comes to healthy lunch ideas, I'm all about quick, tasty, and easy-to-prep meals, and this wrap nails it!

And since he is all about crispy bacon, I knew he would devour this wrap just like he did my Chicken Bacon Sandwich and this BLT Bagel! Below, I share a link on how to microwave your bacon quickly and with no-mess, so let’s get to it!

Ingredients

You can find the exact amounts in the recipe card below, but here's a quick look at the ingredients I used for this wrap:

  • Tortilla: any large tortilla will do. You can even use whole wheat, gluten-free, or flavored wraps.
  • Turkey: a lean protein that's mild and pairs great with crispy bacon.
  • Bacon: for the perfect salty bite! Microwaving the bacon saves time while keeping it perfectly crisp. Bacon bits will also work in a pinch.
  • Cheese: cheddar is my son’s top pick so that’s what I’m using, but sometimes I switch it up with swiss, provolone, or even pepper jack for a bit of spice.
  • Lettuce: adds crunch and helps create a moisture barrier.
  • Tomato: for a boost of juicy flavor and nutrition.
  • Mayonnaise or Ranch Dressing: adds a creamy, tangy taste and helps hold the wrap together.
  • Mustard: (optional) I love mustard for it’s zippy taste, but I skip this step when using ranch instead of mayo.

How to Make a Turkey Bacon Wrap for Lunch

With these easy tips, you can make sandwich wraps perfect to chow down now or to keep fresh until lunchtime.

  1. Cook the bacon
Start by microwaving the bacon, then chop it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Layer the ingredients
Spread a layer of mayo on the tortilla to hold the lettuce in place. Lay the lettuce down in the center-it acts as a barrier to keep the tomato juices from getting the tortilla damp. Place the tomato slices on top of the lettuce followed by the bacon, turkey and finally the cheese.
  3. Wrap it up
Fold the sides of the tortilla in, and roll it up tightly like a burrito.
  4. Pack it for lunch
Place your turkey bacon wrap inside a lunch container and pack any lunch sides separately.

How to Wrap a Sandwich Wrap Tightly

After layering the fillings and folding them in the sides, the trick to wrapping your sandwich wrap tightly is to tuck in the ingredients tightly into the wrap as you roll it forward. Read this post to learn how to make a sandwich wrap and watch a video.

Tips to Keep this Wrap Fresh Until School Lunch

Wraps make excellent school lunches, and these helpful tips will keep this turkey and bacon masterpiece fresh until the lunch bell rings:

Choose the right container
Place it snugly in a hard, sandwich-sized container. This will prevent it from moving around and keep all the fillings intact.

Wait to slice it in half
Hold off on slicing your wrap in half just before packing it in the lunch bag. This will help keep the filling inside and stop the wrap from getting soggy.

Pack Sides Separately
Keep fruits and veggies separate to avoid moisture from wet ingredients seeping into the wrap. This will also help keep your produce crisp and fresh.

Keep it cool
Keep your wrap in the refrigerator until it's time to pack it in the lunch bag, and add an ice pack inside to keep the temperature inside stable.

If high-protein, versatile lunch ideas are your jam, you've got to try the Chicken Avocado Lunch Wrap or Chicken Caesar Wrap. These are packed with healthy ingredients that fuel my son, a ninja himself, all day! If chicken isn’t your thing, this ham and avocado or turkey and hummus wrap will keep things exciting!
