Bagel sandwiches make an easy, filling lunch when a regular sandwich just isn't enough. They're sturdy enough to pack, easy to customize with sweet or savory fillings, and especially good for bigger appetites.

Bagel Sandwich Recipes

Bagel sandwiches were one of the upgrades my active teens used most when a regular sandwich wasn't filling enough. They'd rotate through different fillings to keep things interesting, and when we were out of bagels, they'd make a lunch wrap instead. The recipes below are some of our favorite combinations, plus I've included more ideas for building your own bagel sandwich.

  • Spreads & condiments: mashed avocado, guacamole, hummus, pumpkin seed butter, Homemade Ranch, mustard, mayo, pesto

  • Cheese: cheddar, Swiss, provolone, mozzarella, cream cheese

Laura’s Tips for Bagel Packed Lunches

Should you toast a bagel for a sandwich?

You don’t need to toast the bagel, but you can if you prefer a stronger texture. If you toast it, make sure to let it cool completely before assembling the sandwich.

What should you pack with a bagel sandwich?

You can add fruit, veggies, or healthy school snacks that your kid loves.

How do you keep a bagel sandwich from getting soggy?

Use lettuce or cheese as a barrier between the bagel and wet ingredients like tomato and cucumber.
