These turkey avocado lettuce wraps are an easy way to turn deli turkey into a fresh, filling lunch without another sandwich. Here, I’ll show you how to roll them so they hold together and stay crisp until lunchtime.

Packing It for Lunch
- Prep the lettuce
Pat the lettuce completely dry and overlap two large leaves to make a sturdy base for the filling. - Add the filling
Layer the tomato, turkey, avocado, cheese, and pickles over the lettuce. Add a small drizzle of mustard or your favorite dressing. - Roll it up
Fold the lettuce over the filling and roll it snugly. If your lettuce doesn’t roll easily, leave it open and eat it like a lettuce cup instead. - Pack for lunch
Place the wraps snugly inside a sturdy lunch container so they can’t move around or get crushed. Refrigerate until it’s time to pack the lunch bag.

Laura’s School Lunch Packing Tips
Boston Bibb or butter lettuce works especially well because the leaves are broad and flexible. Whatever you use, dry it completely before assembling. Water left on the leaves makes the wrap slippery and causes it to wilt faster.
Start with very dry lettuce and pack the wraps in a hard container rather than a bag. Keep them refrigerated until you leave and use an ice pack in the lunch bag.
A little browning is normal because avocado darkens when it’s exposed to air. Inside this wrap, most of the avocado is covered by the other ingredients, which limits that exposure and slows the browning. You can also add a little lemon or lime juice if you want.
You can, but lettuce wraps are at their best when they’re assembled closer to when you’ll eat them. If you’re prepping ahead, make sure the lettuce is completely dry and refrigerate the wraps in a sealed container.
