Lunchbox Bento with Egg Salad and Pita

Hungry bellies will devour this scrumptious bento box with egg salad and pita. It’s a perfect high-protein lunch you can pack for school in 5 minutes without worrying about mayo getting spoiled, since the egg salad has no mayo at all!

Pack egg salad with deli turkey and pita wedges and soon your kid will ask for this bento often. Tasty, nutritious, creamy… this lunch is always a winner! If pita isn’t a winner at your house, try this egg salad lunchbox with sandwich skewers instead!

What is also great about building bento boxes for lunch is that you can use what you have on hand, make swaps, or add snacks, fruits, or other ingredients to make it different every time.

Keep reading to learn all the packing tips for a fresh bento box that stays fresh until lunch!

What is in Egg Salad Bento with Pita

You can pull together this 5-minute bento idea easily with healthy and delicious ingredients that kids love. The best part is that this egg salad has no mayo and can stay in the lunchbox with an ice pack till lunch. This bento includes:

  • Egg salad: I add a serving of my epic No-Mayo Egg Salad recipe.
  • Turkey: your favorite deli turkey, rolled up.
  • Pita: sliced in wedges, is a delish addition that pairs great with egg salad.

You'll find the measurements in the recipe card below.

How to Pack Egg Salad Bento for Schol Lunch

Keeping ingredients separate is the key to building a perfect high-protein bento with egg salad and pita that stays intact and safe to eat. Here’s how I packed this bento:

  1. Pack egg salad
Place the egg salad in one compartment of the bento box.
  2. Add turkey
Roll up the turkey slices, and slice into bite-sized pieces. Place them in another compartment of the bento box.
  3. Pack the pita separate
Place the pita wedges in a separate compartment.
  4. Refrigerate
Refrigerate until ready to pack in the lunch bag with an ice pack, if needed.

More Tips for Packing Egg Salad Bento Box

You can pull together perfect bento boxes every time by following these packing tips:

Separate wet from dry ingredients
A kid’s bento box container with lots of compartments is your best ally when packing lunches. Pack wet ingredients like egg salad and turkey separate from the crunchy ones, like pita wedges or any other chip. Since this salad has a dressing, packing it separately from the turkey will help keep everything intact until lunchtime.

Keep egg salad cool & safe to eat
Many parents worry about sending egg salad for lunch during warm months. Two ways to pack it safely are by packing it separately in a thermos container or, simply including an ice pack in the lunch bag to keep the entire lunch cool for hours.

Meal prep
This egg salad without mayo stays fresh in the fridge for up to 4 days. Meaning: you can make a batch of mayo-free egg salad and use it to make a bento, fill sandwiches or wraps, build healthy snacks, or stuff tomatoes! Plus, you can pack bentos with egg salad and pita ahead, and you'll get great lunches ready to grab and go!

Add veggies and fruits
Pack veggies or fruits as a side to make this bento box even more nutritious. Easy ideas? Grapes, sliced cucumber, bell pepper strips, celery sticks, berries, orange slices, tangerine segments, etc. If it’s easy to grab and eat while kids are chatting with friends, add it!

Pack snacks or desserts
For bigger appetites, pack this bento along with your kid’s favorite snacks, like these No-Bake Chocolate Balls or these Banana Chips. A Blueberry Yogurt Parfait or this Homemade Fruit Cup are also delicious and healthy sides kids will enjoy eating.
