Use leftover cooked chicken for this delicious high-protein BBQ chicken and learn how to keep it fresh for hours in a lunch box with the tips in this post!

Grilled Chicken Wrap
Using leftovers is my not-so-secret weapon for packing quick healthy school lunches. Here, I’m using some grilled chicken from dinner to make this epic BBQ chicken wrap that’s full of protein and veggies that’s always a hit with my kids.
I often cook extra chicken with the purpose of turning extras into quick lunches with chicken, like this chicken burrito bowl or this epic buffalo chicken salad lunchbox.
Ingredients
The measurements for this grilled bbq chicken wrap are in the recipe card below; some notes on what can be swapped include:
- Cooked chicken: If you don’t have grilled chicken, shredded rotisserie chicken makes this recipe fast and easy.
- BBQ sauce: tangy and delicious! Make it with store-bought or try my kid-friendly homemade BBQ sauce.
- Tortillas: large flour or gluten-free wraps are flexible and hold up well.
- Mayonnaise: optional but adds a creamy flavor!
- Lettuce: you can omit the lettuce, but it gives a fresh, crunchy texture and helps prevent the wrap from getting soggy.
- Tomato: adds nutrition and keeps the wrap filling moist.

How to Make a Grilled BBQ Chicken Wrap
Here’s how easy it is to make sandwich wraps that you can eat now or keep fresh for later:
- Prep
Add chicken to a bowl and mix well with the sauce until all pieces are coated. Whether you're using rotisserie chicken or grilled chicken, make sure the pieces are bite-sized. - Layer the ingredients
Spread a layer of mayo on the tortilla to hold the lettuce in place. Lay the lettuce down in the center-it acts as a barrier to keep the tomato juices from getting the tortilla damp. Place the tomato slices on top of the lettuce, then add the BBQ chicken as the final layer. - Wrap it!
Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then start to roll while tucking in the ingredients to keep the filling nicely packed inside. This will help prevent everything from falling out. - Pack it for lunch
Place your grilled bbq chicken wrap inside a lunch container and pack any lunch sides separately.
Health Benefits of a Grilled Chicken Wrap
Grilled chicken wraps are a healthy lunch option because they’re an excellent source of lean protein, which our kids need for development and growth. The wrap provides carbohydrates for energy and focus, and the veggies add vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
School Lunch Wrap Packing Tips
You can keep your school sandwich wraps fresh for hours like a pro with these additional tips:
Use a sturdy container
You don't want this epic wrap to end up flattened in the lunch bag! Packing it in a hard, sandwich-sized container will prevent that from happening.
Keep It Safe to Eat
If you're making the lunch ahead of time, keep it in the fridge until you're ready to leave. Add an ice pack to regulate the temperature inside the lunch bag and keep everything cool and fresh.
Avoid Soggy Wraps
Cutting your wrap in half just before putting it in the lunch bag helps keep the filling inside and stops the wrap from getting soggy.
Pack Sides Separately
Keep fruits and veggies separate to prevent moisture from wet ingredients from reaching the wrap. This will also help produce stay crisp and fresh.
