Plus, you’ll learn my tips for packing these sandwich kabobs for school and keeping them fresh and delicious until lunchtime.

Lunchbox Sandwich Kabobs
I’ve always encouraged my kids to get involved in prepping school lunches, especially when it comes to anything hands-on. Last week, my son helped me put together these colorful and fun sandwich kabobs in no time before school.
He loved threading the veggies and sandwich pieces onto the little picks, plus, he couldn't wait to show off his "cool" lunch. Similar to my Zucchini Pizza Bites and Cheddar and Apple Quesadillas, these kabobs are kid-friendly and have an added boost of nutrition!
What You Need
You can check exact measurements in the recipe card, but here’s a quick rundown of the ingredients needed to make these sandwich kabobs:
- Deli meat: You can use any kind of deli meat here-ham, turkey, or even grilled chicken breasts.
- Cheese: I’m using cheddar since it’s my son’s favorite, but feel free to use your fav! Block cheese works best for this, so you can cut thick slices that hold up well.
- Veggies: Think crisp cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, and bell peppers! These add freshness and crunch. Mix and match your kid's favorites.
How to Make Sandwich Kabobs
These sandwich kabobs are quick to assemble, and here are a few tips to make sure they turn out just right!
- Prep
Start by cutting the crusts off the bread with a serrated knife to prevent tearing, and slice it into squares. If your deli meat is thin, roll it up into thicker pieces, like in these ham and cheese roll-ups, to help it stay together on the pick. Cut the veggies into small, bite-sized pieces about the same size. - Assemble the kabobs
Using small bento picks or skewers, alternate threading the bread, deli meat, cheese, and veggies onto each pick. Try to balance the ingredients, so every bite has a little of everything. - Pack it for school
Place the kabobs into a hard lunch container and pack any healthy sides, like fruit or extra veggies, separately. Keep refrigerated if making ahead.

Packing Sandwich Kabobs for School Lunches
With these helpful tips, you’ll be able to pack sandwiches like a pro and keep these kabobs in great shape until your child opens their lunchbox!
Use the right container
Avoid a squished lunch by packing it in a hard-sided container with a lid. It keeps everything in place, even if things get tossed around, so those kabobs stay looking “cool” all the way to lunchtime!
Keep food safe
Add an ice pack into the lunch bag to keep the deli meat and cheese chilled and safe to eat later at school.
When in doubt, go bite-sized
Kids often don't finish lunch because they're busy socializing with their friends, so options like pinwheels, skewers, and egg cups are always a great idea!
Use familiar ingredients: For picky eaters, focus the lunch around one or two ingredients you know your child loves and that will keep them full, then add sides like banana chips or fruit cups.
