Spinach Wrap Lunch Ideas

I've packed lunch wraps for my kids for years, especially as their appetites got bigger and a basic sandwich wasn't always enough. Spinach wraps are easy to fill with protein, veggies, leftovers, or whatever we already have in the fridge, so they're one of my favorite ways to make lunch feel different without adding more work.

These are some of the combinations I've packed most often, and farther down I'll show you how to roll them tightly and keep them from getting soggy.

What to Put in a Spinach Wrap

A good wrap needs enough filling to be satisfying without making it impossible to roll. Start with a protein, add a spread or cheese, then finish with a few veggies or something crunchy.

  • Protein: turkey, chicken, eggs, tuna, deli meat, beans
  • Spreads: hummus, cream cheese, mayo, mustard, pesto, peanut butter
  • Cheese: cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, provolone, feta
  • Veggies: lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, shredded carrots, peppers
  • Extras: avocado, bacon, apples, pickles, olives

How to Fold a Lunch Wrap Tightly

When making a wrap, layer the fillings through the center of the tortilla without overfilling it. Fold in both sides, bring the bottom edge over the filling, then roll tightly. You can pack it whole or slice it in half once it's tightly rolled.

Laura’s Tips for Packing Spinach Wraps

How do you keep spinach wraps from getting soggy?

Use only a small amount of mayonnaise, dressing, or another wet spread inside the wrap. Pack extra dressing or dip separately in a small lidded container.

Do spinach wraps need an ice pack?

If the wrap contains perishable ingredients such as chicken, turkey, tuna, egg salad, cheese, or dairy-based spreads, pack it in an insulated lunch bag with a cold pack. See my guide to using ice packs for school lunches.

How do you keep wet ingredients from softening the wrap?

Place lettuce, cheese, or deli meat against the tortilla first to create a barrier between the wrap and juicy ingredients such as tomatoes or cucumbers. You can also pack wetter ingredients separately and add them at lunchtime.
