Healthy Lunch Wrap Ideas

Laura Fuentes holding a stack of lunchboxes and a school lunch bag

My kids can only eat so many sandwiches before they want something different, and wraps are one of the easiest ways I change things up. They are quick to assemble, easy to customize with ingredients they like, and they pack well for school.

Use these recipes as a starting point and swap in what you have. Ham can replace turkey, leftover chicken can replace deli meat, and any lettuce or spread your family likes will work.

These wraps work especially well for teen lunches because many include enough protein and substance to satisfy bigger appetites. For younger kids, use a smaller tortilla or simply pack half.

How to Pack Wraps for Lunch

Wraps pack best when they are folded tightly and kept away from too much moisture. Watch the video below to see how I fold one so the filling stays inside until lunchtime.

  • Use less moisture: Go easy on tomatoes, salsa, pickles, and dressing. Hummus or pesto holds up better.
  • Wrap it tightly: Use a paper towel, plastic wrap, or foil to help it keep its shape.
  • Protect it: Pack the wrap in a sturdy container so it does not get flattened.

Can You Make a Grain-Free Lunch Wrap

Yes. Use a packaged coconut or cassava wrap, or make my grain-free tortillas. For a gluten-free option, try these homemade spinach tortillas, which hold plenty of filling and pack well for lunch.
